SIRC

Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Center is local NGO that operates a facility in Banepa, Kavre district, offering long-term rehabilitation for patients with spinal cord injuries caused by road traffic accidents and falls from heights.  GNHA supports the center by rehabilitating five financially weak patients each year, providing them with wheelchairs and implementing  home modifications for eight patients.

Spinal Injury Sangh Nepal (SISN) was founded in 2002 by Kanak Mani Dixit after a life-altering trekking accident in the Annapurna region, where he fell from a cliff and sustained a spinal cord injury. After overcoming a year of heartache and trauma, Mr. Dixit fully recovered and established SISN to support the spinal injury community. The organization’s founding members are prominent and socially conscious individuals representing a cross-section of Nepali society.

SISN focuses on two main projects:
  1. Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Centre (SIRC): Inaugurated in April 2002 by the late Sir Edmund Hillary, the SIRC was established to address a critical gap in Nepal’s public health sector. Initially located at the Nepal Apanga Sangha in Jorpati, Kathmandu, it was later relocated to its own premises in Sanga, Kavre, on November 23, 2008.
  2. Vocational Opportunity for Inclusion to Community and Employment (VOICE) Centre: This center provides vocational training and employment opportunities to help integrate individuals with spinal injuries back into society.
